I am proud to have helped to provide leadership for the last eight years on a number of initiatives which have or will provide for A Better Collinsville.
Let’s discuss some of those efforts:
- The City has taken back control of our parks, after the collapse of Collinsville Area Recreation District. Due to neglect by CARD, we've had to make significant repairs and we've also completed some major improvements so our residents can once again enjoy safe and beautiful parks.
- The City has taken over direct operation of the Gateway Convention Center. We’ve made much-needed improvements, streamlined operations and made it profitable. It is a valuable asset for our community, both for the events it brings for local residents and the visitors it draws to Collinsville. Visitors help fill our hotel rooms and otherwise spend money in our community; that spending has helped us keep property taxes low for City residents.
- Collinsville has completed a state of the art water treatment facility that will for many years into the future provide us with an efficient and safe water supply for our water customers.
- Collinsville is in the process of completing a biosolids program that will move our sewer treatment plant to a cutting edge process which that is both environmentally safe and good for local farmers. The fertilizer components in biosolids, or sewage sludge, fertilize for better crop yields and provide the most efficient way to dispose of the sewer treatment plant’s byproducts.
- The City is completing plans for a consolidated public works facility for the street and water departments, and the newly implemented Vehicle Maintenance Division. Combining the street and water departments in one facility will bring will bring greater efficiency and lower costs. These plans will ultimately help us improve the appearance of the southern entrance to Collinsville on Route 159.
- We’ve also made the City more efficient with the City’s new Vehicle Maintenance Division, which has lowered maintenance costs and usually reduced down time for City vehicles. This service has increased efficiency for nearly all City departments.
- Staffing and equipment in the Fire Department have been upgraded so sure our residents are provided with the best Fire/EMS service in the region.
- Funding has been increased for critical needs in the police department, such as new interoperable communications equipment and staffing to help make Collinsville the safest community in the region.
- Promoted economic development, particularly along St. Louis Road and Uptown, but also in the Eastport Plaza area and Bluff Road (Route 157).
We’ve also implemented programs to:
- Improve our existing neighborhoods with more effective Code Enforcement
- Develop a task force to promote New Single Family Housing Development
- Improve our relationship with Collinsville Unit School District #10, to better make others aware of all Our City and Our Schools have to offer.
- Improve communications with residents for total transparency.
- Increase Economic Development Incentives for St. Louis/Collinsville Road areas.
